Paan Singh Tomar : From A National Champion to a Rebel

3.5 stars from me.

Paan Singh Tomar
, have you heard of this name? I am pretty sure, that like me most you have not heard of this name or heard it after watching the trailer of the movie of same name.

It was Saturday, so I decided to watch a movie. There were two reasons behind this: one the movie is based on a true story, two, my favourite actor: Irrfan Khan.

The movie makes an amply clear statement-- that India has a sad track record when it comes to the treatment of its former athletes and who were real national heroes once.
Not too long ago, such an incident happened with National Hockey team too.
Remember the treatment to hockey team when they won Asia cup? that too by beating Pakistan?

It's movie about how and why a national champion become a rebel. I did not say "dacoit", because he was a solider, 7 times national champion, person who represented India overseas, and if such a person go on rampage and killing people, there must be some reason. I am not trying to justify his killings, no not at all.

Question is not why he killed so many peoples, question is why took gun in his hand. Like Paan Singh said in movie "कोई अपनी मर्जी से बागी नहीं बनता", और "चम्बल में बागी बसे हैं, डकैत तो सारे पार्लियामेंट में बैठे हैं"।
Go and watch the movie, I sure you will like it.

  1. True, Ravish.
In childhood we used to see movies, where there was a villain and a hero. Hero used to be too good.. while villain used to do all sorts of things that didn't come under the ethics set by society. Our parents told us about their goodness, expected us to become like them. Similary in schools too we used to read stories about people.. that marked a clear line between good people and bad people.
However when we in our youths today and are living a practical life, i really wonder why the hell those people were called "Villains". I think sometimes..am i a villain then ? And where are those heroes.. Are they the same whom we are fighting with today ? Everything looks inverted.

All the circumstances of endless corruption , unemployment, open cheating, put no option before the youths but revolt. Ah..! but if you revolt you may be proved "Antisocial"... or may be "Naxalite" ? or yah.. may be Dacoits of Chambal valley.
People don't have food, clothes etc. They, their children are looted everyday "legally", "constitutionally" and "lawfully". When they ask questions , they are dacoits. When they accept their condition, then they are true civillians.

I didnot see the movie but if people like Paan Singh Tomar (National level players) can become dacoits.. then no doubt we all in common public are sitting parallel to them.
Fatefully only a thin line is saving us temporarily, that is making us think that probably we are different. But i think none of us is different. Any time anyone can be selected and can be called "dacoit". Or if one wanna remain "Good" "A Hero"... do as they want us to do.
